Social media in a world crisis
As any other technology we have in our hands social media is a double edge weapon in various ways, especially when there is a world crisis as in these days. It is either a platform of inspiration, good communication, and guiding or a platform of misleading and frustration. So how that goes and how can we control it for our own good? Let’s discuss that in the next couple of lines.
Misleading through social media
Not a little number of people uses the access to social media as a tool to mislead others and spread rumours and false information, especially in these hard times. And this is in many forms, for example most recently we have seen lots of posts and message regarding the spread of the virus, false treatments, conspiracies about who invented the virus and many more. Due to that there is a state of fear and unawareness. And this mislead could be done without attention from any of us, for example by sharing a post that its information is invalid. Hence, we need to be more cautious when it comes to sharing anything concerning crucial and important matters.
And whoever has the capability to correct that information and stop those from going on shouldn’t hesitate doing so. Besides that the reader has to get the information from its valid sources and not to dwell on social media for that unless it represents those valid sources. The Responsibility of influencers
As someone who has the slightest effect and impact on others they have to be aware and conscious of what they do and say. Knowing that others may go and follow your lead in something, should give you the responsibility to act in the most moral and ethical way possible, but definitely without hypocrisy. Hence in the current situation they can encourage people to stay home basically. Also it would be good to give them ideas to things they can do to overcome the boredom and dull of the situation. And we have already seen so many people we love from social media; influencers to actors, writers, singers and many more do great things to help us deal with this hard time. Thus before sharing that post think if it will do any good. But yet we mustn’t forget that they are as just humans as we are and they have the full right to not be okay or feel bored etc.
A daunting burden
One of the most negative things
about social media is all the aching feelings and the heavy burden that gets to
most of us from it. It gives us that feeling that we are missing so much out
when we see anything we are not doing that others post. We start comparing our
life, actions, what we have, do and worse ourselves to others. Thankfully we
have been experiencing this less than before in lockdown situation, everyone in
their homes experiencing mostly the same things and feelings. For once we are
not feeling that we are missing out, for once we are all being together in
something. And that is the good thing about it.
Source of inspiration
We mustn’t forget that also when we feel down, we find several posts, messages, pictures, and people to inspire us, give us a push and make us feel a little better one way or another. And we need that now more than ever. If you have the ability to share something good, to make someone smile, to grab someone maybe out of the dark and remind us and yourself that this too shall pass, then do not hesitate doing so.
A communication tool
We can’t control what content is put out there and what is right to be posted or what is wrong not to be. But we can control what we post, see, and which people to follow. Our existence not only on social media but also on all the internet and technology platforms needs crucially to be more conscious. We need to open our eyes and minds into how we use these tools and to what extent they affect our lives. Sometimes we tend to forget to live in reality and sink in the online world, following that our vision in life may get blurred. Hence we need to wake up from that comma that may get to us and live life as it is experiencing all its details.
Hope you got something good from that. And if you liked it share it with your friends, and would like to hear your thoughts in the comments.
Have a lovely, inspiring time on social media.
